Don’t Forget to Be Grateful

BY: Jessica AlldredgeWe have two months left in the year 2020. We’re so close to it being over. This year has brought a lot of challenges, changes and complications. It’s easy to be upset or think negatively about how difficult this year has been for everyone. While those issues shouldn’t be brushed aside, it’s important to take a moment to stop and think about the good things we can be thankful for. Even if you don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, it’s still a good practice to take the time to notice the little things and the big things that help make life good. Even when it feels not so good. Here are some ideas to get you started:This semester is almost over. You’re close to being finished with this particular educational challenge. School is about to come to end for a while, and you ca...

Disney Pixar Changing the Family Dynamic of Their Films

BY: Caitlin GallagherThis article contains spoilers for the movie Onward. Disney Pixar rushed the release of Onward to Disney+ due to the worldwide CoVid-19 pandemic, and I’ve watched it several times already. I was so impressed. I have cried, I have laughed, and I have related to it. It really is a heart-warming movie about love, magic, wonder, redemption, trust, family, faith, and sacrifice.  What really caught my attention, though, was how Pixar shows the different family dynamics, challenges, and ailments that are relatable to kids and adults today. This film is filled with hard-hitting personal challenges that could prepare children for real issues raised in society. The story is centered around a young boy, Ian, and his older brother, Barley. Ian was not even born...

Favorite Hallmark Christmas Movies

BY: Molly GrayIf you did not already know, the Hallmark Channel is already playing their new Christmas movies, as well as the classic ones that we all know and love. As usual, they have two channels where you can watch these movies. The first one is Hallmark Movies and Mysteries, which plays what I call the “sad movies.” Truthfully, they are the movies that are very heartwarming. The other is the Hallmark Channel, which plays movies that can be considered romantic comedies. Hallmark has something for everyone this Christmas season. Here’s what I found to be some favorite Hallmark movies.Ashley Taylor, AUM student and Hallmark Christmas movie-lover, says that her favorite new Hallmark Christmas movie so far is Merry and Bright. This movie has Jodie Sweetin (Full House) and Andrew W...

More Money, More Problems: Unethical Monetization in Video Games

BY: Cory DondeMost Millennials remember a time when new games came out for $40, and we became outraged when the price was raised to $60. Now, we wish that the $60 dollar price tag was all we had to pay for a full game. Due to game developers and publishers becoming increasingly greedy, more monetization methods are being implemented into games, and most people who play games now eat up the opportunity to gain more content, even if it eats into their wallets. Whenever we log in to our favorite recent releases, we're introduced to storefronts full of premium skins, lootboxes, and subscription services that cost us more money than the initial price we just dropped on a game. We need to be more aware of these monetization tactics and realize when we're being scammed into buying content th...

幸运快三Is the Caf Good? Survey Says…

BY: AnonymousThere are a few things that can make or break a college student’s campus life. Having a social group, events to go to and meet new people, and places to hang out at are all important. However, one of the most critical things in our lives at this point is simply food. It’s where most of our money goes and what we’re getting between classes. Hell, the main reason we go to campus events is to simply eat and leave (you’re not the only one, we all do it). It only makes sense that the cafeteria plays a big role in our lives as students. Furthermore, it’s no secret that Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) students have been unhappy with the school’s cafeteria food for some time. So, we decided to survey the student body and ask for their opinion on the AUM Caf . ...

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Review

BY: Caitlin GallagherMaleficent: Mistress of Evil, like its predecessor, gives us a side to the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty that we didn’t know before. The film starts with a focus on the newly engaged couple, Aurora and Prince Phillip. With a deep desire to unify their two kingdoms—The Moors and Ulstead—soon betrayal and deceit looms like a dark cloud over their plans and rips through each of their families.Once more, Angelina Jolie delivers a cunning performance as Maleficent. Riddled with sly and witty one-liners, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil delves deeper into her ancestry and we begin to see a more sensitive side of her.  When Queen Ingrith, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, shows what evil truly is as she concocts a plan to destroy Maleficent, a fatal confrontation bet...

Movie Review: The Addams Family

BY: Molly GrayThe Addams Family is something that most of us grew up watching. Therefore, we have a good idea of what we envision the Addams family looks like and acts like. I was excited to see this new version to see how they would change the story or how the family acted or looked. Here are my thoughts on this new movie.I really liked how you could easily tell which animated character went with the live version that many of us have seen. Morticia was tall and slender. Gomez had the iconic black hair and mustache. Wednesday had her dark hair in the familiar pigtails. Pugsley was the only one with light-colored hair. I will say that I did not like how Gomez was larger in size than what I am use to seeing. Wednesday’s head was also a strange shape, but I believe that it went with...

Borderlands 3 Review: New Touches to a Familiar Formula

BY: Cory DondeWith the same grind for loot, familiar faces from previous entries, and several returning enemy types, it would be easy to mistake Borderlands 3 as an over-glorified DLC for Borderlands 2. However, with enough new mechanics, new weapons manufacturers with interesting gun quirks, and a pair of new antagonists, Borderlands 3 makes its mark in the ten-year-old franchise from 2K and Gearbox. The new story follows a new set of vault hunters on their journey to foil the plans of the Calypso twins, Tyreen and Troy, and their quest to become gods. Along with the main quest, there are the token Borderlands side quests, as well as the hunt for loot that the original looter shooter in the series made so addicting. As a long running fan of the series, I was concerned abou...

A Different Texture

BY: Kaleria JacksonHair is a discussion, but to be more specific, black hair is a discussion. It’s an argument, and it’s a lifestyle. It is the story that is never ending and changes over time. Hair in the black community can connect the most unlikely of people together. Our hair binds us together, whether we know it or not. It’s almost like a fingerprint--we all have one, but one person’s hair is not the same as the next person’s hair. Black hair varies from curls to zig zags. Every curl pattern is different, but there is a chart that tries to breakdown the most typical types of curls and put them into sections. Each hair type requires a different hair treatment to go along with it. Even then, that treatment may not work for your hair. Let’s go even further to the t...

Joker Review: A Dark Descent Into Madness

BY: Cory DondeAnyone who knows Batman knows that the Joker is his iconic main antagonist. There have been several films with different interpretations of the demented clown, but Jaoquin Phoenix has set a new precedent on just how dark the character can be. Although the film is technically a DC Comics film, the first three quarters of the film revolve more on the character of Arthur Fleck than the Joker alter ego  he ends up adopting. It's a true showcase of a man who has serious mental disabilities that end up being neglected by Gotham and even ridiculed by its citizens. Gotham is beautifully portrayed as a grimy, dark, crime-ridden city that has not been touched upon much in a realistic sense before. It has a tinge of what a large city with a large, angry lower class would have ...
